Bottom Line: Overall, 'Sultan' packs the punch !

Story

The plot is all about Sultan Ali Khan (Salman) who hails from a small town in Haryana. Even though he has some personal problems in personal and professional life, his Wrestling skills earn him a good name. He falls in love with Aarfa (Anushka Sharma) who is also a wrestler. As both of them share same passion, it leads to Love ! Sultan's only dream is to represent India in Olympics and he even achieves it. But the success has gone to Sultan's head and his attitude chances all of a sudden. Soon that leads him to path of destruction too. Aarfa as a true girl friend, warns Sultan about going in wrong lane, but he never even bothers about it. Aarfa decides to break up and Sultan loses all glory in upcoming incidents. Sultan then moves to 'Real Wrestling' where he meets some real wrestlers. How he kicks them and gets back the lost glory forms the rest of the story.

Star Performance

Salman Khan has just outperformed himself and he has lived up to the role of Haryani Wrestler. Salman also carries high on emotions. He will make us laugh, smile, cry and it is one complete package from Sallu bhai. The second half is mostly filled with fight sequences and Salman's hardships. Salman fails to get the right 'Haryani' language accent too. But that is not a big flaw and Salman has other big factors to woo the audience. On other hand, Anushka Sharma has done a fab job as Aarfa and her dialogues pack the punch. Randeep Hooda as Salman's coach has done a neat job. Even Randeep went a physical transformation for 'Sarbjit' and he has done it again. But still the show stealer was Salman Khan. He has undergone immense training and his hard work is obvious in each frame. Rest of the characters have done justice to their roles.

Analysis

This is Salman Khan's most uninhibited raw performance movie till date and the Super Star has walked out of his comfort zone to do it. The Wrestling scenes begin only in second half of the movie. The first half doesn't have much Wrestling and the story also moves at slow pace. The training portions are the highlight. Editing could have been better in second half as it tests the patience of audience at times. Director Ali Abbas Zafar has decided to prioritize the story rather than the actor.
