Meanwhile when speaking at the inauguration of Gas Authority of India Ltd’s (GAIL) `6,283 crore Bengaluru City Gas Distribution (CGD) project, Pradhan said that “The project will cover 4,395 sqkm in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts covering Nelamangala, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hosakote, Bengaluru East, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru South and Anekal.”
Furthermore he said the project will provide economical, environment friendly, uninterrupted and safe energy to 1.06 crore residents of Bengaluru by supplying piped natural gas (PNG) for households, industries and commercial units. “This will significantly add to people’s convenience as there will be no hassle of booking, advance payment, storage, handling of heavy weight cylinders and monitoring of cylinder delivery. Billing will be done once in two months based on consumption”.
Meanwhile GAIL India Chairman and Managing Director B C Tripathi said: “We have laid the infrastructure for around 34,500 households in the city, of which 23,300 are ready for conversion. Some 3,000 houses in areas like HSR Layout are already using PNG.”
